    65 Turn signal lever angle

I have a 65 roadster with the standard column. The turn signal is at about the 8 o'clock position (or perhaps closer to 7), In addition to feeling "wrong" (too low and too close to my thigh) the wire relief on the mast jacket is clocked counter clockwise. I took the column apart and everything looks to be properly assembled. Can the entire column be rotated?

On a related note, is there a good place to find lots of photos so I can see how things are supposed to look?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    Mike

Mike -- first question; on the firewall side, is the groove in the mast jacket vertical (ie. with the "dimple" in the firewall bracket [shown by the punch mark in the attached thumbnail] seated in this groove ?) --- I'm missing my circular clamp w/screw .

If yes (ie. correct), then I'm guessing that when you had the column apart, and when you installed the flat base plate with the 4(?) slots and 3 screw holes into the corresponding tabs on the top of the tube [you then turn clockwise to lock], you should have rotated the plate to the NEXT set of tabs for the orientation of the switch mounting holes.

Your present situation would also explain why the notch in the bell (external at bottom) and the wire harness (flat-ish plastic sheath) is not pointing vertically down. How does it get to the matching gap in the U-bolt bracket without pinching ?

Hope this might be your solution.

P.S. one of my '65's has the lever at 9:45 o'clock, the other (with an NOS GM service tube -- replaced about 1982 because most of my tube tabs were broken off) is about 9 o'clock.

Thanks Wayne, I will be going to the car later and check the firewall side. I don't think that the base plate is the problem as (from memory) it will not fit at the next clockwise position (the gaps between the tabs are not the same). It is a big help to know that the lever should be 9 oclock or higher.

I checked and the groove was off center. I loosened the clamp and under dash nuts and rotated it into the correct position...problem solved! Thanks again
