C3 1969 wiper door installation

Is there any "trick" involved in getting those 2 special bolts mounted on each side of the underside of the wiper door to the mounting arms on my 1969 Corvette?

How do you get yours hand(s) in there to start that bolt?

Oh yeah, just for the record, another incorrect part from "Corvette America", I bought the 8 screws (kit) that attach the wiper grill on my 69, discovered they are significantly "shorter" than my original ones that I had saved but had old paint on them. Also the gasket purchased from Dr. Rebuild for my rear defroster vent outlet on my decklid was some sponge ****t material instead of a hard plastic like the driver door antenna mount gasket is made out of.

I could go on and on but I am sure most of you are aware of this crappy stuff.

Jim,

get a 3/8" socket a universial joint and an extension that is 18-24" and some tape.
Put the tape on the socket stickey side down. Then take the shouldered bolt and stick it through the tape and into the socket that way it won't fall out on you. Next take the wiper door and tilt it back side down and front side up, have a helper hold the other side of the door, and catch the back bolt on each side. Then tilt the door down and repeating the process install the front bolts. I have put on way to many of these to remember like this.

I went to NAPA and ordered their 20" 3/8 extension today, should be here tomorrow.

We'll see how smooth it goes then.

Jim,

The 3/8 should work fine for you. I like to use a 1/4" set-up just a little easier to use. But make sure that you take a few rags and lay them under the hinge to prevent the bushings or bolts from falling down into the cowl plenumns and are impossible to recover. Also you can put a dab of grease on the bushings as you put them into the hinge to help hold them in place.

Another trick is if your universal has too much play you can wrap a piece of 3/4" tape around it so it will hold its shape and not droop. (Think of it as it's little blue pill!!)
