Well now it looks like grinding. Got two to finally back out. Got two drilled out. I have tried different cobalt drill bits on the remaining screws with no luck. They will barely scape the material. Why in the world did they use hardened screws to hold clips in place?

I have a dremel tool and I guess I will try grind the 4 or 5 that will not budge.

All I wanted was to put that darn windshield in. This is worse than getting that driver's side dash pad back in place.

Someone want to buy a nice 70 with lots of matching numbers It is getting cheaper by the drill bit.

Those screws being hardened has nothing to do with what the screws are holding, but everything to do with the threads cutting a channel in the metal they are screwed into. It also has to do with keeping the Phillips bit from camming out of the screw head on installation.

That's why the original black silane primer was applied on the inside of the windshield - so UV wouldn't deteriorate the Thiokol adhesive. Later cars that had the black "frit" painted on the inside of the glass used clear silane primer (neither Thiokol nor urethane will adhere directly to glass).
          Thanks John. I'm back now.
Not only that, but POR is impossible to remove, clean up, etc.

A magazine called "Auto Restorer" had a test of POR vs Eastwood a few years ago, and the Eastwood product came out on top. Their results match my experience.

I thought I might share my experience so maybe it could help someone else.

I did some more research and decided to try fluted carbide drill bits to drill out the screws.

It worked really well. I drilled out the last 4 screws in less than an hour. The drill was used on a low speed and the bit went through the hardened screws with little to no problem. I used a 7/64" bit and once I could see I was well through the thickness of the steel header into the screw, I tapped on the piece of the screw sticking out the other side. It popped out leaving the hole intact. I finished by running a 1/8" bit of same type and material through where the head of the screw was still there.

What a relief. The bits cost me around $25 plus shipping. Expensive but well worth it.

              Hi Bill,
A plan that worked AND only cost $25. WELL DONE!
