    Front end paint

According to the NCRS manual, the spindles should be unpainted. However, the Noland Adams book says they should be black. I've seen lots of pictures of other 60 models that were painted also.
Could someone clear this up please.

Noland is always correct ! If the car is getting judged you will have to go with the jg. Does that make sense. Stewy

That's what happens when you were not there when the car was getting built. If your getting the car judged go with the JG. Noland spent years making those books that tells it how it was really done. It's a grey area ? But Noland is correct maybe give Tim Mickey an email to quantify. Stewy

Noland is always correct? Is that said tongue in cheek, or in reality?

When his book first came out, I was the NCRS 61-62 team leader, and already knew Noland quite well. In a very positive spirit I sent him a two-page list of things that I had observed on a number of unmolested 61's and 62's that disagreed with statements in the book. His response was that he knew 53-55 extremely well, 56-57 pretty well, and that Automobile Quarterly demanded that he include 58-62 in the book, so he did, but that he was not all that knowledgeable in that area. He told me that he relied on GM prints, etc., which we all know didn't necessarily reflect what actually happened on the line.
Now his "not being all that knowledgeable" was certainly ahead of about 95% in the hobby, but he never even pretended that he was the ultimate expert on 58-62's.
Please understand the above--it's not at all a demeaning of Noland at all--it's 1) an understanding of where he came from, and 2) a reminder that our study of original cars has continued from when his book came out in the 80's, up to now, and we have a greter body of knowledge now than we/he did then.
