69 SB Spark Plugs & Wires

Before the regional I put on a set of LL reproduction wires. Ran good for a couple of days then experienced a hard miss. Closed the garage door turned off the lights and found an arch by the distributor shielding. Made a terrible mistake and moved the wire for a better view, it definitely gave me some love. Put some heat shrink tube, for a temporary fix and the hard miss was gone.

I still have a slight miss at idle that goes away when throttled is applied. I did not have any of these symptoms before I put the reproduction wires on.

I have a driver and the wires must go. Any recommendations on a good set of wires and plugs for my 350/300?

Erv, I've been looking for the same advice as you for my 69 350/350. There is lots in the archives on plugs and wires. The concensus for a car that is not judged seems to be Delco R45s plugs and Delco 508N wires. Do some searches on plugs and wires and you will find lots of info. Good luck with your car.

      Erv:

The Delco 508N wires that Larry Merchantz mentions would be a good choice. If you don't like the red boots, you should be able to replace with the ones from the LL set. Use a little silicone grease to facilitate removal/replacement.

Another alternative that looks close to original and performs very well is to make you own using Delco Packard 440 solid strand wire. I have done this many times over the years and always had good success. You can still buy the 440 wire and then re-use the rubber boots from the LL wire set. The only downside (besides some extra work making the wires) is that you will probably have radio static when the car is running. Since I have sidepipes on my 67, this doesn't affect me..... since I can't hear the radio anyway

Contact Paragon as they now have an alternitive to the LL wires. By the way the Delco set is a "muliti use set" (also fits Chrysler 340's).

          Since when?

I purchased a set of wires from them only a couple of months ago, and they're still the LL sets.

Are the 508N designed to work with a radio. Looking for some that are cut to length and fit well.

Since last month, ask for the NEW wires. I believe John Hinckley has a set.

Yes they will work with a radio, but are not cut to the correct lengths (some are too long).

I see Paragon has a part # 1633 for spark wires. Wonder if they are quality or the same as LL dated but not dated. I will give them a call tomorrow and revert.

Erv, let us know what info you got from Paragon about the spark plug wires. I'll be using the AC R45 plugs, but not sure about the Delco 508N wires if some are too long.

I use resistor plugs and copper core wires from Packard inside the LL shielding, with the LL boots and connectors. It's a bit of work but they work well. I think Dick Whittington suggested this. No radio problems.

I have sent a PM to John Hinckley asking if he indeed bought a set and how they are working. Will revert when I hear from John.

I purchased a set of Flame thrower from Summit. They are flat black with no script and 7.0 mm. Boots are also black on both ends. Low resistance with two current paths, made in USA with a lifetime warranty. Think I paid around $40.00 shipped. Lengths are not perfect but fit pretty well.
