Transmission sidecover

I have a 65 327/365 hp with the 4 speed transmission. I was verifying the numbers on the trans as compared to the Juding Guide and I have the correct maincase (casting mumber 3851325) and the correct transmission casting code for my car, however the tag on the sidecover is stamped 3857579. The Judging guide indicates that the sidecover number should be 3831707. Is it possible that there were more than one sidecover number? Would anyone know what the number on mine is from? Should the sidecover number be stamped onto the sidecover or is the tag attached at the bolt correct?

3831707 is the casting number for the side cover itself; the embossed steel tag with the 3857579 is the part number for the complete transmission assembly as shipped from Muncie.
