Mid year vent window frame upper pivot repair?

The small upper pivot on the outside of the vent frame which appears to have been spot welded on from the factory broke off of the frame, has anybody else experienced this problem and is there a good solution to re-attach it? I realize this would require the vent glass to be removed from the frame. I can't see any way of re-welding it and making it look right without specialized equipment.

    Thanks,
    Steve

A good welder can weld this, then polish it and it'll look as good as new.

    I've had it done.

I believe he drilled a hole in the frame and welded from the backside thru the hole.

remove the glass, drill a 1/8 to 3/16 hole in the frame, then mig weld (using stainless wire) the frame to the hinge pivot.then polish the frame. its stainless and your repair will not be discernable. good luck, mike

        I also had that problem.
It is stainless steel and you will need someone that can weld stainless
I had someone to weld one for me and it turned the stainless blue
but i was able to remove it with a product called PRISM polish.
yes they welded it on back side cost was 15.00
I talked to someone that advertzed they could do this and the cost was
        125.00 i almost had a ------attack.
        check around your area.
        Good Luck

What is the best way to actually remove the glass from the frame?

I took it to a window glass company and they removed it
            for me.

As an alternative to the polishing after welding, here is atrick you might try. Part can be dipped in muratic acid (available at the hardware) and burn (bluing) marks will disappear. Part must then be dipped in water with baking soda to nuetralize the acid. This works very well, and is perfectly safe if done correctly. Will work on just about any metal that has turned blue due to excessive heat.

                Steve,

use a heat gun to warm up the bonding material in the channel. Once it is hot to the touch grab the glass and frame with the regulator mounting TEE bar pointing away from you and the glass end down, catch the vent frame where it first contacts the glass by the vent regulator TEE on the edge of a metal work bench. You are putting pressure on the channel not the TEE. Then with both hands on the glass pull down and the window will pop right out. If it is stubborn heat it up again and repeat.
