I've got a thin metal tab mounted by 1 intake manifold bolt, directly in front of the choke spring with 2 squared off prongs facing upward. It resembles the tabs used to mount the plastic clips for plug wires. It appears to serve no purpose here. It is painted engine orange, stands about an inch and a half tall, and seems to be original and never used. Any idea what it is? (350 manual trans.) Thanks, Mike

Re: Mystery bracket-71 SB
I'd vote YES on that answer! The '71 sported a one-year only emission system called CEC (Combined Emissions Control). These cars were factory equipped with 1114444 CEC solenoids mounted to the carb(s) that switched vacuum to the distributor ON/OFF and raised/lower curb idle RPM.
A steel tube ran from just in front of the distributor forward of the carb making a LH turn to cross in front of the carb. The tube was connected to the distributor and to the CEC solenoid via rubber hose at each end.
In the viscinity of the intake mentioned, there was an upright 'clip' that supported the steel vacuum tube. I suspect this is what the poster describes...- Top

Re: Mystery bracket-71 SB
That's enough to convince me. I am not that familiar with the CEC system and was hoping mine was complete. I am sporting a long length of rubber hose from distributor to solenoid. From what Rich states, I'll be looking for a replacement bracket also (only 2 tangs on mine). Being a one-year-only item I guess this is going to be the never ending search. If anyone can post a clear photo of this tube (attached to motor if possible) I will probably be more successful trying to fabricate a clone. Thanks so much for the quick and decisive response. I do appreciate it. Mike- Top
