    54 Camshaft

Can anyone identify the application of GM Part Number 3836484 as correct for a 54 Corvette camshaft? Joe L?

GM #3836484 is the correct, original part number for 53-55 Corvette with 6 cylinder. It was also used for some 54-55 trucks with 261 cid 6 cylinder engine.

This camshaft carried casting #3836390. However, some later SERVICE pieces might not have this number cast on them.

The GM #3836484 was discontinued without supercession in May, 1975.

Thank you, Joe. I thought that this camshaft was different than the 53 (and early 54) cam and that the more aggresive design accounted for the additional five horsepower (155 versus 150) in the later 54 Corvettes.

It is NOT the camshaft for the '53; it is, as stated, the # for the 261 cu in motor avaialble in "Utility" trucks in '54/5 and does indeed get credit for the extra 5 ponies in 1954.

It may very well not be the original camshaft used for 1953-E54 Corvette apps. However, it is the only camshaft available for 53-55 Corvette 6 cylinder applications since late 1955. Thus, any earlier camshaft would had to have been discontinued and superceded by the 3836484 no later than late 1955.
