    E-bay sellers

Looking at e-bay daily I see so many parts for sale that are wrong saying it's for this or that and often I e-mail the person saying it's not correct. Trying to help them sell their part by using the correct description
or year . Some write back thanking me but usually never Change the wording . Like this 55 generator saying it's 100% original for a 55 when only the center section is while the end plates are not. Then some newbee gets it and later finds out it's not correct. This is how many people lose 25% of their money buying parts thinking the seller knows what their selling.

I never rely on the seller's description. I also sometimes contact sellers concerning these issues and its rare that the seller will update the item. Generally they just ignore my message.

    Thanks.

hey! Thats my part I am listing! just kidding... I do have some parts on there which I really try to explain used unrestored and for certain years. Right now, i am selling door strikers, door handles, rear 61/62 license light and lower console moulding. I think my description is accurate.

        Roy-
As a buyer, I think E-Bay is the best thing to ever happen to our hobby. Finding a hard to find part now is possible without having to spend thousands to travel to this swap meet or that one. As a Seller (michaelz505), I now have the entire world as a market place without spending any marketing money-how great is that! I routinely send parts to Europe and Australia. Like anything else, there are good E-Bayers and bad. I sell all of my restored parts and services with a money back guarantee if the buyer is not happy when they get the part (within 3 days). So, the moral of my $.02 worth is know what you are buying and if not look to the refund policy and do your research, and use PayPal-they will go to battle for you if it gets ugly.

There was a "matching number" 1960 for sale that included a picture of the engine stamp pad. The car was #3852 and the VIN was stamped using a gang holder and the smaller size characters. I e-mailed the seller (a dealership) telling him that his pad was wrong and sent him pictures of how it should have been stamped. They were very pizzed because they bought the car from a well know seller that had advertised it as original. They removed it from E-Bay.

Jim-guess that is what I am saying-the integrity of the Seller comes into play-this Seller/Dealer learned from your knowledge and did the right thing and removed the listing-I would do business with that Seller. Those that do not care or don't change their listings-don't do business with.

              Re: E-bay sellers

E-bay has been a great thing for me because I know what I'm buying by looking at the pic's and if not ask the seller to send more pic's. And my biggest advantage is also knowing what other makes of cars use the same parts. I have a large list of 55 owners that e-mail me asking if the part they are looking at is correct ( don't get me wrong I don't know everything) but it's a good idea for others to do the same asking people they know what is or isn't correct before buying.

The problem with some sellers is that they use a parts book looking up the parts number to determine what it's for and year which in many cases can be wrong.

I see some postings for '55 Corvette parts that also reference '55 passenger cars. I think they just use a shotgun approach to get the most exposure. I have emailed sellers on parts that are not correct for a Corvette, I usually don't get replies they just want to sell the part to someone...

Question: Are these THAT valuable or rare???

Not only sellers, I quit selling on Ebay as I had to secertly mark everything I sold. The same item was not returned for credit and then came the threat of negitive feed back. Over 600 positive sales and I quit. Buying was not much better. Dale

The best thing about E-Bay are the sellers that have no clue of what the value is of what they are selling. My best purchase was for a 66 steering column with a original teak wheel for a B.I.N. $175. The listing said it was a aftermarket wheel.

emailed the same person on this generator yesterday. if you check the tag it's number is 1102043, not the 1102025 that one would look for on a 55. lister never responded.
