Good used originals are getting hard to find and tend to 'bid up' on forums like eBay. You're after a Delco D-308 vs. a D-308R. There is a current reproduction part that I've been told comes pretty close to the original part which you'll find offered for something like $60-70.

So, it's up to you...go hunt/shop for a real McCoy and expect to fork over $100-200 or run with the new reproduction and maybe lose a point or so on originality.

The reproduction caps are exactly that a reproduction Yes you will lose points when being judged. A NOS cap will cost you $100-$200 but a good used one should be below $100. When you find a original cap only use it for judging. If you need more help in finding a NOS or a good used original please e-mail me. Check the judging manual to make sure your getting the correct cap for your year car.

Jim the reproduction caps that I have seen are for 68 and earlier no "R". There is a Chapter member here in Cincinnati Henry Palanci he has a large collection of new nos and used Patent Pending "R" caps For Sale and points, rotors and condensers if needed. You can contact him at 513-451-7060 after 6PM local EST.

Jim, you can check swap meets too. I found a lightly used one for my LT-1 and paid $10 for it. It was in a box of GM Dist. Caps. All I did was clean it up a bit and works fine....

Larry- You have the right answer: John Pirkle restores most all of the various model caps. One can reach John at pirklesr@aol.com or 706-860-9047. Also, check his ad in the "Restorer".

I heard that John Pirkle no longer restores distributor caps. Heard that at Corvette Carlisle. But it wouldn't hurt to ask.

Re: Need correct dist cap Delco w/R

I found a new original (never used and not a reproduction) D-R w/R distributor cap for one dollar at a local swap meet earlier this year. The originals have a little fillet just to the right of the "window" that the reproductions don't have.
This weekend at a swap meet I found a nice D-R 882 horn relay for $3 and two nice original 1972 T-3s (low beams) for $25 the pair. Love those swap meets and salvage yards.
