54 Distributor Vacum Advance Problem

My vacum advance is working sporatically. Sometimes it will advance and return other times it will not. Does someone have a picture of the correct installation of the advance unit on the distributor? Is there a return spring? Also it was just identified that there is no splash shields in the bottom of this motor. When you remove the road draft tube you can see the cam. My question is how much oil will the motor lose with around town driving or is this something that I should correct immediately?

The spring is behind the front nut , you may just have a bad unit , this is the correct one and it clamps to the dist. You cant see the cam but the crank , don't know what you mean losing oil HOW?

Oil is spitting out the draft tube. Is the supposed to be a baffle in the block?

Dont have a 6 banger but I dont think you can see the crank from the hole and there was some plate to shield the hole

The cam is located low in the block and that's actually what I'm looking at. Thanks for the help and the pic!
