C2 Steering Wheel - is it original ?

Does this steering wheel look original ?

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

I just received it and to me it looks almost perfect except for a few scratches on the stainless where it was mounted.

The grain is very pronounced and looks very much like wood.

I know I may have overpaid but I felt it was such a visible item and hated the cracks in my wheel.

Mark, does the wheel match the description in the '65 JG (judging guide)?

      Hi Mark;

Looks legitimate to me... Compare the number of dimples on the back of the wheel to your original.. If they are the same, I think you can be certain that you indeed have an original..

I bought a repro teak wheel for my '65. Looks great... and I was assured that it would pass flight judging.... A judge counted the dimples.. 26 versus 22 (or was it visa versa) so I lost some points!

      Havefun,

      Joel

It does match the judging manual and looks the same as my original wheel.

I'll count the dimples. If anyone knows any way else to determine a repro from an original then please let me know.

If I bought a repro wheel that was listed as an original wheel i would try to return it.

I think you will find the wheel you purchased original in all respects.

Thanks Joe. I am very impressed with the quality of the wheel. It really looks like wood. The grain on my worn and cracked wheel is very smooth but on this wheel the grain is very evident.

I think the reproductions go for about 300 bucks for the wood grain plastic wheel. So, you didn't do so bad for a near perfect used original.

OK you guys; I just had to go to the garage to count my two plastic wheels [one with a crack] (51 finger indentations). Then counted my original teak -- 48 indentations. Obviously, teak requires thicker fingers, ie. more "manly" hands.

Isn't there a space between the indentations on a teak but not on a plastic wheel? Can't remember.
I do remember that the two sure do feel different. Different shape.

Michael -- here's a couple of pics of my teakwood. When I did my counts, I didn't include the space at the spokes (ie. no finger indentations)

Ok, same as a plastic wheel. I was refering to the flat, or unindented space between the indentations. (unindented?) On a plastic wheel, there isn't an unindented area.
I suppose the indentations are a little deeper in the plastic wheel too?

I probably better go look at the wheel in the 66 because it's possible I have no idea what I'm talking about.
