68 2 Questions heater core and oil line

I ordered the jude padding for under the dash with thick rubber covering. It is pre cut for the heater box and has four hole for the bolts. I tried installing it today, 2 of the bolts will not go through all the way. Does that padding go between the firewall and heater core boxes?????

And the nuts are speed nuts with the tar like material under it???

    Last question
427 L68 oil line, according to the judging manual it is all steel from block to bracket and from bracket to gauge. I can not find it anywhere for sale. Os the guage correct???

C Central # for the line is 303106. Bracket is separate. This is for '69

I believe that '68 is one year only. I will have to dig up some notes to be sure. I am sure that someone that knows for sure will chime in

I believe if you check closely that the oil line in '68 was originally metal. Mine is and it looks to be copper. It does not attract a magnet. It's not plastic.

Terry, GM never installed a copper line on a Corvette. The copper work hardens from vibration and becomes brittle.

I believe that John has the correct answer. Plastic in '68

                Dick, John & Joe,

I checked the judging manual for '68-'69 regarding oil lines and found all of us to be partially correct but not completely.

In 1968, the 427 oil pressure gauge line from the engine fittings to the bracket and from the bracket to the guage is a single natural steel tubing. In 1969, the 427 oil pressure gauge line from the bracket to the engine fitting is steel with a natural finish. The portion of the line from the bracket to the gauge is 1/8 inch outside diameter, black plastic. The small block line in both years is one piece black plastic, 1/8 inch outside diameter, with small white lettering.

I'm sure someone will be able to tell us why the application of steel vs plastic in those years.

My original owner 68 SB still has the original black plastic oil line. What should the white lettering on the line be? Have not noticed it?
