Tom didn't they wreck hundreds of chargers in Dukes. Stewy[/quote]

Yes, hundreds were used and destroyed. Only one was the original, first General Lee though. The famous Lee 1 which appeared in the pilot episode and on every lunchbox and T shirt ever worn by Dukes fans. It is also the only General to appear in every episode as the Seney Hall jump is shown at the beginning of every episode. There is a whole science to spotting differences and quirks about real screen used Generals. I learned in the short time I owned Lee 1 that General Lee fanatics are almost as crazy as us Corvette nuts !!!

In the early and mid-60s there was a dentist in Southern California, Dick Taylor, that raced a red 57 at the drag races. He named the car "Snurd" or maybe "Snerd." It ran a small block with Hilborn fuel injection. I'd love to know what ever happened to that car?

One of his street cars was a 63 roadster with the old race engine out of his 57, a fuelie with roller cams. Wonder what happened to that car too?

I once owned two of the cars used in the movie Conair.
one was a 1967 convertible. that they dropped from a crane 60 feet in the air,to the ground .the other was the 1984 that the plane landed on and caught on fire.both cars where stripped . the 84 scrapped. the 67- sold the body and frame .the car was restored and still out there.(most likely with a bloomington gold cert)

Also there was the car from deathray 2000 ??? at carisle last year.

          David,
The one from Deathrace 2000 is down at Midamerica (Mike Yager) in their collection along with others like the 89 ZR1, 64 World Fair, Zora's CERV1, 68 Lemans Corvette.

They have several others in his My Museum collection that I'm sure many of us have seen when attending Funfest or visiting MAM. Although I believe during that Corvette week-end the "Herbie" collection goes into "hiding". If you haven't had a chance to see them in person click on the link to check them out.

I believe some of the older, less famous race cars are more difficult it identify due to fewer identifiable personality changes. I've been going through about 1300 slides from the mid to late 60's of midwest races that include so darn many cars that it is hard to imagine identifying them all! It is easy to spot the Grand Sports and James Garner cars but there are many others in each race.

The SCCA group either lost or did not keep very good records back then. My old car went back to the street for many years and nearly as many owners. So many of the old racers started life as more or less street cars and as you read in the books we read, 'they were driven to the tracks for racing, then home to be used for the transportation to work'. I envy you guys with the persistence to pursue and build the history of these old cars.

I took a photo of a blue '67 coupe in the early 70s at Watkins Glen. Took me a bit of time to fine him, but I recently talked to the Michigan based driver who owned the car at that time. He has no idea where the car ended up. We will talk some more.

He always ran a small block. See end of this earlier post for a photo.

Re: How do famous cars disappear?

My neighbor has one of probably many "General Lee ", Dukes of Hazzard cars that is driven in local parades that I have worked on. I remember the rear 1/4 panels looked good on the outside but had been replaced (probably many times) in the past and were welded, filled only where needed, the inner wheel wells and trunk floor sides were not attached at all. They replaced panels the quickest, easiest way, for the next episode. Steve
