53-62 Steering Knuckle Corvette Forged 3693446 (daub of yellow paint)
49-54 Steering Knuckle Pass. Forged 3693446

Answer: They are the same as forged and if the Corvette Knuckle is striped of the yellow daub, it would look the same as the Pass. By memory the difference is a shot blasting of the Corvette part to cut down on stress risers and make it where it will withstand more agressive driving conditions.

Without confusing anyone (hopefully). You can lower the 53-62 Corvette about one inch by using the 53-54 Steering Knuckle Support. The 56 Sebring Team Car Number 7 has this support ( Do not see it in the official parts listing. Do not know when it was added)
    Regards

        All,
The 49-52 is different from 53-54 spindle supports on pass cars.
The knuckle on the 53-54 pass car spindle support is positioned approximately 1in HIGHER up on the upright, which has the effect of lowering the car.

            THAT IS CORRECT!
But it is still important to understand that even though the 49-54 pass car and 53-62 Vette spindle supports are physically interchangeable--------------------THE 49-52 AND 53-54 PASS CAR SPINDLE SUPPORTS HAVE THE KINGPIN KNUCKLE IN A DIFFERENT POSITION (It's higher on the 53-54)!

The 49-52 PASS car and 53-62 Vette are the same style.
The frontend of 53-62 Vettes can be lowered by installing the 53-54 pass car supports.

This swap was ocassionally done by owners of early Vette race cars. This swap, plus the shorter HD coil spings, really helped to lower the CG of these cars.

GM #3733449 is the forging and part number for the left side front spindle SUPPORT for 53-62 Corvettes. The right side SUPPORT is 3733450. I don't know what the "5147" represents; it's some sort of manufacturing code, I expect.

Yes, this is a case in which the same forging was used for 2 (and, possibly, more) finished part numbers. As a result of this, the 3693446 does not constitute an ID number. Unless a forging or casting number constitutes an ID number, the number cannot be used to positively ID a part.
