1967 Questions for John Hinckley, etal.

John, I have 2 questions on how the car appeared as it left the factory.
    1. Were the tie rod ends, natural cast color gray or were they black like the rest of the steering linkage, idler, etc.? I lost points due to my tie rod ends being cast color.
    2. Was the inspection cover at the rear of the bell housing black, or was it painted orange as the engine & bell housing, I left mine black and lost points again?
Just trying to regain lost points but also keep the car correct.
    Thank you,
    Gary

    Gary-----

The tie rod ends were "more-or-less" coated with a black asphaltic coating along with the rest of the steering linkage assembly. The studs on the tie rod ends were temporarily covered with cardboard tubes and, thus, were free of coating. Of course, the stud portion of the tie rod ends cannot be seen once installed on the car. But, the body of the tie rod ends was "more-or-less" covered with the black, asphaltic coating.

The bellhousing inspection cover was painted engine orange with the engine assembly.
    In Appreciation of John Hinckley
