C1 air cleaners

I realize many repro air cleaners come looking like the two (bellow) while these NOS originals have a look of a satin finish (top).

Then how should judges judge the air cleaners finish. Only the 53 to 55 of all C1's is chromed .

I believe a quick dip in a 5% nitric acid solution will give them that satin look. You should be able to test the technique on any spare piece of polished stainless.

1956 single four barrel 11 inch air cleaner is also chrome. Pretty close to the 55 V8 air cleaner in appearance.

Don't think so, at least for the 55-56 V8 air cleaners. Seen plenty of them rusted throught the chrome.

Gee ! your right I'm losing it 53 to 57 were chromed
