I have a set of original '67 bolt-on wheels that are in very good shape with no damage to the aluminum or other structural repairs needed...but the paint between the fins is flaking and there is some oxidation / light scratches on the fins and rim area.
I block off the tops of the fins and wheel edge and used a soft media blast to remove the paint and clean things up. Does anyone have any suggestions on steps to "fine tune" the tops of the fins and the outer edge of the wheel to bring back more of a uniform finish the natural shine? Would using very fine wet sandpaper (1,500 or 2,000) and then some aluminum polish work? Very detailed work, but I would rather do than sending off somewhere - especially with the value of these wheels...
Last question - is the inside / backside of the wheel left natural aluminum finish?
thank you very much - Jeff Cornwell
