Wow, I'm speechless.



I found what is probably the second owner of my 67. Not only that, but he wrote me a letter back and INCLUDED PICTURES from when he owned the car in 1968-69.

My scanner is down right now, so here's a photo of the photos.

To say that I'm excited doesn't really capture it all......

Well, actually I have at least 2 to go.

The guy that I just found had the car from 1968 through March of 1969 (roughly from 22K to 28K miles).

He suspects that the original owner was the dealer, and either his wife or daughter drove the car.

After that I have at least one more to get. Here's what I have.

0 - 22K miles - dealer owned?
22K - 28K miles - guy I just found
28K - 38K miles - at least one other guy, probably two (I've spoken with one of them)
38K - today - our family (1973 - current)

Keep writing to him. I found my original owner through the second owner. The funny thing was that the Texas title search listed the second owner as the first. the second gave me the firsts name and address. he ownly owned the car for 6 months. i wrote to him i sent him a picture of the car with my 10 month old son i even called his house and spoke to everyone but him. About 2 years later i recieved a letter from him appologizing for the delay he had no pictures of the car but went on to explain why he sold it so quickly. So do not give up .

Hey Chris,

You've had a GREAT year!! I've been following your restoration, and it came out "Top Flight!!" I wish I had your luck in finding prior owners of my 1966. I have a complete history from 1975 to the present. There has been NINE of "us" including me, but the trail goes cold pre-75. Maybe the rest of us who have been searching will get lucky too. Good luck finding #1.

Congratulations Chris!

I know how you feel. The second owner was the last guy I could reach in my 67's ownership history. It took me 2 years to find/reach him. When I finally did, it ended up that he had just been visiting a block away from me... 3000 miles away from where he lives! At any rate, it completed my ownership history and I was very pleased to say the least.

way to go.This summer I had even better luck on one of my cars,'66 427/425hp roadster.The original owner was trying to track down his old car.Though he had moved from the area years ago the car was still in the Cleveland,Oh. area.Through an NCRS member who remembered a car the the first owner described from Lake Erie Chapter meets back in the '80s.He started looking for the guy that I bought it from,Chip Morrill.I bought the car from Chip who bought it in the '70s.He posted on several corvette websites asking for info on Chip but mis spelling his last name.Some one refered him to Bill Clupper.Bill hooked him up with Chip who contacted me and put me in touch with the original owner of my car.Better yet he still had the letter from chevy that he received when he purchased it along with original owners pin,patch and the bill of sale.So I know how happy you are

Congrats. I tried to search for previous owners of my 1960. Traced it back to Ca. in the mid 60's and the trail ended. I bypassed all that crap with my 1965. I bought it from the original owner who happened to save every piece of paper for the car including the dealer invoice and window sticker.

After searching the internet on and off for five years, a few weeks ago I finally obtained the cell phone number for the 51 year old son of the original owner, who passed away in 1996. The protect-o-plate just had his initials and a fairly common last name. Low and behold, the address on the protect-o-plate turned out to be a bar in Yreka, CA. I finally found an old liquor license from the State with his name, at that address. Go figure. From there it was just old fashioned detective work...calling people and asking questions.

The son vividly remembers "The Yellow Banana" and is putting me in touch with his late father's brother-in-law, who supposedly knows much about the car. This guy has owned an L88 and restored other vettes, a real brother. Hopefully he can tell me where the car went in 1971 and help me locate the second owner. I have a copy of this California registration with the owner's name and address blanked out. I bought the car from the third owner, who purchased it in 1981 from a now-closed used car lot in Oregon.
