Thanks Joe, I was familiar with that procedure being done with heads, but I wasn't sure if that was the ideal method for this location as well. I spoke with the owner and relayed this info, he was happy to hear that there are sound repair methods for both problems, he was pretty bummed back when he got it back from the shop with the newfound cracks.

Not really, because it would be an original HG engine of the correct vintage, it just would not be in its original chassis.

I had A 327 block with the same crack in the main web years ago.It was in A drag car and we broke several crankshafts before the crack was discovered .The crank always broke when it was reved A bit more than usual. Being it was 40 years ago I do not rememer the number I think 7,000 RPM. One thing was for sure it happened every time.

Carl Cruz entered it in the 65 FUEL INJECTION REGISTRY in November 1984 as ''F0817HG, 11/84, 717/867-4xxx''. I have 'x' out the old phone number which may be the same today. To date, no one has claimed the vin number to a car. I will add the above description to the REGISTRY.
