This may come as a surprise..but rail
shipment started in 1959.
The idea was submitted by the chief inspector
of the St. Louis Corvette plant as a money
saving idea. It was tested for Corvettes
and then put into place.
Somewhere I have the original recommendation
and the quantity shipped for test and
money saved.
The same person recommended special
covering for trailer hauled cars to avoid
liquids dripping on cars below.
Several methods were then used.

in the very small town of Paw Paw, W.Va, sometime in 1954, a train wreck occured smack dab in the middle of town. on that train were a great # of beef cattle on their way to their eternal reward. the cows got loose and ran all over the county. also on the rail cars was a least one new 54 corvette. on elderly patient of mine was telling me the story a couple of years ago. since my roots include Paw Paw and since i've got a slight interest in corvettes, i questiiond the old fella for details. he recently brought me a newpaper article with photos showing the train wreck and the cow running ramant in Paw Paw. he also brought me a fiberglass tail light assembly(the piece that bonds to the rear quarter/rear top surround). several cracks in the old polo white nitrocellulose paint, otherwise a usable piece. wonder what happened to the vette(know what became of the beef).mikeComment
