    70 Tcs Hard Lines

I'm trying to determine the proper diameter of the hard line that goes from the TCS unit attached to the intake. One lie goes to the back of the carb with a rubber hose attached and the other goes to the vacuum advance unit with a rubber hose attached. The sample (incorrect bends) I got from Dr. Rebuild is 1/8 inch outside diameter, but in conversations with others they say it should be 1/4 inch. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions are welcomed.

    Joe -

Vacuum hard lines for the TCS/advance system are 1/8".

I also thought it s/b 1/8 in. I'm having a hard time finding the 1/8 in. tubing as most suppliers have 1/4 in. or 3/16.

I had this fabricated a few years back from a known original.(SB version) Bends are right on. The only issue is the fabricator only has single flare tube, but isn't detectable once installed. Contact Tom at classic tube to hook you up with one PART NUMBER CVO1004-SS FOR STAINLESS OR CVO1004-OE FOR STEEL

          Dennis,

In your research on this topic did you find any differences within the 1970 model year for the hard tube configuration? The reason I ask is there was a late 70 at the chapter meet today with a tube with different bends. This car had the late enclosed air cleaner. There was also a clip for the metal tube mounted to the intake at the end as it entered the tubing to go to the TCS solenoid. It was an original part according to the owner.

I'd be interested in seeing a pic of that. My research and copy was from the open element style A/C. Had a known original sent to classic along with a great photo from Stan F. of another original.

I had not seen any with a clip, but that would certainly effect the bending to the TCS solenoid. See no reason this tube would not fit under the dual snorkel as well. sounds like the clip your descibing was a 71 setup

Here's a picture of it - not too good but from my phone. It's a 70 L46 car, late build. You can barely see the clip as it is behind the wires.

do you have a pic of the entire length of the tube? Here's a shot of a 71 setup. Appears the clip is in the same location

That's the only pic I got. The clip is the same. The tube took two bends to make the first 90 degree turn up to the carb. Must have been redesigned for the new air cleaner. The owner claimed it was original and owned the car since 74.

Dennis, my motor is the 454 so the lines are different. Does Tom sell !/8 in tubing? I'll have to fabricate the lines for my application. Tx.

John, when you responded that your lines were 1/8 in, was that measurement inside or outside diiameter? Tx

                        Joe -

Tubing is always dimensioned based on its outside diameter, hoses by their inside diameter.

Sorry for the mis-information - I just put calipers on the vacuum pipes, and they're 3/16" (.185") in diameter; calipers are much more accurate than these old eyes.

                              Dennis,
Can you tell me where you bought your striped hoses and are they correct?
