Has anyone used the Honda truck as a tow vehicle? I use an 18' aluminum trailer to tow my 64 coupe, presently using a 2003 Chevy 4WD extended cab with the 5.3 liter. I am considering trading and am concerned that the Honda may not be up to the task.

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
Here is a site that will help you out. Keep in mind that tow figures are calculated figures by the auto maker and to me tend to be a little on the optimistic side at times. I'm not saying that you need a 1 ton or anything like that but I think that if you use a ridgline that it will be like in the kids story "the little engine that could".

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
Not nearly eough ass. The ridgeline does not enough weigh or have big enough brakes. If your traveling on the interstate and have to stop in a panic, you, your ridgeline, your trailer, and corvette will probably end up in the ditch. Can say how much damage depends on the ditch. Forget the honda, buy an America Truck-----not just one made in the US.- Top

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
You mean like this?
Absolutely the best truck I've ever owned. I don't tow regularly with it but for once in a blue moon towing vs everyday around town I chose the Ridgeline. With an aluminum trailer, you'll be safely below the 5000 lb rating. Here I'm right at but it handles just fine. I like the Ridgeline a WHOLE LOT better than the GMC or the FORD 1/2 tons I had before that. Check out the Ridgeline Forums to see what all those guy's are towing and read the Car & Driver comparisons. Ridgeline really is quite a lot more truck than you'd think if you're used to domestic full-sized trucks.Last edited by Phil D.; October 9, 2009, 08:19 PM.- Top

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
Willard....I played the scenario in my mind too over and over when I had a Nissan Frontier SE Crew Cab. The truck was the top of its class in horsepower and torque. I could pull a trailer, but it wouldn't be the enclosed trailer I wanted and I would be right at the limitations on towing. I live near the mountains too which you have to be able to at least maintain a speed of 40mph in the far right lane to be somewhat safe.
I finally gave up and got a real tow vehicle. A Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab with a HEMI and Tow Package.
This is what I pull:Truck=6800lbs/Trailer=3300lbs/Corvette=3850lbs/4 adult males @ 200lbs each (average) and luggage and tools=250lbs. Grand Total rolling down the highway at 65mph....15000lbs! You need the power to get up to that cruising speed and big enough brakes to stop it too.
I am glad I did the truck trade. I don't use the truck for my daily driver and it sure costs alot more than the Nissan, but I feel safe for my toys and the people that ride with me.
I know what your going through, believe me I have been there.Attached FilesPeter Gregory # 4157

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
I've seen the Hondas pulled over by the side of the road due to wind and grade while towing. I'm sure it would be fine on flat ground once in a while. If your really going to do much towing you need a chev/GMC. PS car and driver loves Hondas and "NEVER" sez anything even remotely similar to a negative comment on the whole line.- Top

I will not buy a car/truck that sends it's profits back to that country.Last edited by Rick S.; October 9, 2009, 08:44 PM.- Top

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
I don't often do this kind of post, but, come on man! Are you nuts? Never mind the insult to buying a vehicle (couldn't bring myself to call a Honda a truck) that, like someone else said, sends their profits to the Emperor, but trying to tow 3,000 lbs with a motorcyle engine? It would be like asking someone on this board whether they should put a Borla exhaust on their new ZR-1 or just put on a "fart can." By a real truck, Chevy, GMC, Ford.Kurt Geis

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
My daily driver is a Honda Civic.. gets over 40 MPG on straight highway runs.... great car.. For towing however, I would strongly recommend the Dodge 2500 or 3500 with the Cumins diesel... Here is picture of mine, parked out at Gettysburg PA during Corvette weekend at Carlisle. It will do 18 MPG on the highway (not towing). I pull the fifth wheel with it, no problem.. with an enclosed trailer with my '65 inside, you hardly know there is something behind you. The neat thing about the diesel is that you can put in a transfer tank, fill it with fuel and just keep going!
Have fun!!

Re: Honda Ridgeline as tow vehicle
I hate to reply to this post on our NCRS website but I will just so none of you go out and buy a Honda Ridgeline with the intention of towing your pride and joy in an enclosed trailer (aluminum or otherwise) and think you can pull it off literally speaking.
Maybe on the level you could do it but I would like to see you try going to to the Corvette Expo in TN if you lived in the NE. Whew!!!
Pulling the mountains of WV and VA and running with the big rigs is no job for a toy like the Honda. In fact it is not an easy task for a GMC-Chevy with a 5.3!
My old GMC with a 6.0 and 4:10 with an Allison will run with the trucks up and down those steep hills thru many states. But my old 2000 GMC Yukon XL with a 5.3 was the pits. How I never blew the engine is beyond me as it was a dead horse.
Story: My ex wife wanted to trade me a Honda pilot with a tow hitch on it for myQuadrasteer GMC 6.0 as part of the divorce crap. I said are you serious???. I said your POC Honda wouldn't pull my vendor trailer up a slight grade.- Top
