The 6 street SRs were to be available in any 1956 Corvette color, EXCEPT green.

Thanks for that info Loren! I did not know that.

I forgot to note I meant the SR-2 of Harlow Curtis.

Thanks Joe! I checked the '57 Cadillac colors a couple of days ago and as close as I could tell it appeared it could be Bahama Blue.

My understanding per a GM stylist of that era is that most specials were not painted with a stock color. You would call the paint dept and tell them what color you had in mind and they would show up within a hour with 20 variations of it. If you did not like what they had, they would start over. Larry Shinoda would tell the story about how Bill Mitchell wanted them to match the color of a fish he had on the wall for a Corvette Special and Larry did not meet Bills expectations, after many attemps they took the fish without Bills knowledge and painted the fish to match the car.
                Regards

PS Just finished reading the life history of Jack Zink. (great book) Larry Shinoda was on his team at Indy when Zink won the Indy 500 in 55 & 56. I believe he was responsible for the paint.

If I remember correctly the Zink cars were pink and off white. back when superstition prevented women from entering the garage area and green cars were considered "bad luck"---but the white garages and garage doors were trimmed in green.

                  Thanks John!

The 55 Indy winner was pink and white, but I believe the rest were red and white or red. He later used orange for his local dirt track and his off road Baja type cars. Old Gasoline Alley was rustic.
