    Distributor Cap

My '73 has a Delco-Remy with "Patent Pending", which I understand is for an earlier year. I've found one that says "Delco - Remy R Patent 2769047". Judging Manual says the "R" indicates an "earlier replacement". So, would this be correct for a '73? If not, anyone know where I can get one without the "R"?

I'll keep a lookout - but I could use that R cap if you decide not to use it for yourself.

        Re: Distributor Cap

William the Patent pending no "R" cap you have if in very good used condition is is worth about $150 to $250 so just be aware. What you need as a per the Judging Guide and I don't totally agree with is a Patent Pending small "R". That discussion would be way to long on the computer. The "R" stands for resister type cap. There is a cap with a larger "R" made in Canada stay away from that one. You can find used and new caps at swap meets and the Drive Line and Ebay. I know a chapter member who sells them he is not a computer user but if you are interested I can get him in contact with you he has new and used caps and the prices reflect that. Depending on condition of you cap he may do a swap for yours with the correct one you need. So let me know. Paul 18046

If that is a repo cap I think a post showed a way to tell the difference so it could not judge 100%.

73-74 JG says "Patent Pending" indicates an earlier cap. Regarding the size of the "R", the one I've found has the "R" about the same size as the "Patent" lettering. Would this be considered the small or large "R"?

William lets get this clear when you say the judging guide states Patent Pending this is with the "R" is earlier correct? Is the judging guide indicating it should be Patent number with an "R"? Yes the "R" size is similar to the Patent letters in size. Paul 18046

                73-74 JG:
"There is a patent number on the caps. Earlier replacement caps have "Delco Remy", "Patent Pending", and a "R". These caps should receive a very minor deduction of 10% or less."
Mine took a 1 point deduction as a result.

This thread has got me all confused . Being a '65 guy, and knowing this cap is not correct for my 396 (where it now resides), I'm at a loss to identify what C3 years this would have have been TFP.

Also, is this the small "R" ?

                    Re: Distributor Cap

Wayne yes that is a small "R". There maybe some disagreement on when you would see this style cap it is my opinion that these caps would have shown up in 1972 and maybe very late 1971 and have run through 1974. Now thats my opinion.

William yes I agree with the cap you need is Patent Number small "R".

I have quite a few of those patent number caps.
No one ever seems to want those. Like this one ---> Patent #Cap

Funny this thread has come full circle. The reason I asked the question was to see if this is the one I needed. I just bought it.
