    Question on PF-25 oil filter

Should an original '73 PF-25 have an embossed bottom? "AC" within a circle in the middle and "ALWAYS REPLACE WITH" around the edge.

Probably not. The emboss on the bottom may have gone into the beginning of 1972, or might have ended during 1971 -- IMO.

Give your post some time for others to chime in. Some of these oil filter details, somewhat like air filter details, are subject to a lot of opinions.

William I agree with Terry some where at the end of 71 or early 72 the embossed filter was replaced by the white body none painted upper flange not embossed. The wording you have ALWAYS REPLACE WITH sounds like a Canadian version of the PF-25 the originals had BEST WAY TO PROTECT YOUR ENGINE REPLACE WITH. Paul 18046

Paul, I agree with you. It does sound like the Canadian version. JD

Terry's very correct......there are many differing opinions on these filters. Some feel the circular embossed never left the assembly line, they were only service replacements. The months and years of usage are also in some dispute.
In my former life, I sold NOS parts and studied NOS oil filters for about 25 years. One thing my own research found, no one that I am aware of, has ever produced definative proof as to the exact usage, or lack of, for this circular embossed oil filter. Even a certain well known, extremly low mileage C3 (under 1,000 miles), I have been told by a reliable souce had received a break-in oil change. So that assembly line filter, like possibly, all the others is gone from history. Not too many people saved old, original oil filters for historical research.
I'm sure that those with better knowledge than myself will come forward with some good advice for you. Ridge.

Their is a Canadian version on E-Bay now and also some great pictures of real PF-25's that are not embossed that show the larger diameter flat spot on the bottom at about $100. and up. I don't know the sellers.

Yes, as a matter of fact, the filter in question is on e-bay on sale in Canada.

Bit the bullet and bought one of the good ones. Thanks.

The engineering change on AC blueprints to remove the embossed message was dated January 3, 1972.
