Pictures of the short block show an unpainted pad but painted block, but his pad closeup shows paint.

At a casual glance, the block was cast about a year ahead of the car build? Sure looks like a 1968 casting date on a car that would have been built almost a year later?Bill Clupper #618- Top

Is it real he asks? I personally would like a closer look at the broach marks. I conceed that photos don't show them well and they really have to be seen in person. This photo, makes them look a bit choppy.

Re: 1969 L88 engine on EBAY
It sure looks like and 8 but it must be a 9, otherwise in 68 the cast date would be on the side of the block and not the flange as shown. It also has the short distributor tower which points to late 69 casting.
The casting date of I (Sept) does conflict with what Colvin says in his Chevrolet By the Numbers book however, he say the date moved to the flange and tower changed height in Nov of 69.- Top

Re: 1969 L88 engine on EBAY
The font-style for the VIN derivative stamping does not look right to me. From what I can see of the broach marks, they don't look, at all, correct.
The year on the casting date does look like an "8" but it almost has to be a "9" since I don't think the 3963512 block was being manufactured as early as September, 1968.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
