    Shock absorbers 1972

Are there any good replacement shock absorbers that would pass judging standards for a 1972 with standard suspension? What is the feeling of the AC Delco Reatecs?

Jerome If you paint, mount them with all the correct fasteners with a label and some where it has delco stamped on it you should only loss 20% due to configuration issues. Paul 18046

Thanks Paul. Are you familiar with the AC Delco Reatecs shocks as an acceptable choice under your scenario. Also what label are you refering too?

Jerome if you are talking about the latest delco shock gas type the confg is different from the originals. The label is the broadcast 2 letter code for the shock VS is the rear code standard suspension can't think of the front. The label is white with black letters. The code is spelled out in the judging guide. Paul 18046

Paul, do you have a specific recommendation? The shocks on the car are not original and at least 5 years old. They are Delco (gas) shocks. And are not the blue/gray color of originals. I think white/cream in color, but not sure - the car is at the shop

Jerome I check some of the links that are at the bottom of your discussion page There is one that Joe L. responded to. If the shocks you were talking about are Delco Reacteks then they are almost identical to the original installed shocks. Joe indicated that they were discontinued a long time ago but if you have a lead on a set and the of the correct config that would be a great get. I checked my photos and I do not have a photo of the original shocks but here is a listing off ebay front 1972 110316967542 and front and rears 110313166972. Check them out so you can see the correct config. If the shocks you have are the correct config just repaint then put a label on them and your set. Other then that you would have to shop ebay or the Drive line or swap meets to fine what you need. Also always check the bottom of your discussion thread there should be links that that can help you with your questions scroll all the way down. Paul 18046

Thanks a lot for everything. Ebay (WOW-$$$), Other links, etc. They were all helpful. Have a good day.

I'd take 40% of the originality points since factory originals were date coded...

Jack I and many other judges do not judge the dates on shocks per our national team leaders instructions. The front shocks are next to imposable to read the dates the rears can be done on the ground. I do list the dates for the rear for the owner on the judging sheet just for his info. As long as the config, finish, completeness, manufacture and installation are ok he gets the credit. That's for a Flight car for a Bowtie that another story. Other divisions may do it differently but in 70-72 that's our standard. I know that the judging guide says to check the dates if possible but we can't read the fronts just the rears. Paul 18046
