    69 Air Conditioner Date Code

I have an original 69 A/C compressor which needs to be overhauled. My compressor is not in nice enough condition externally for show and the foil label is ragged. All the data is easily visible. My question is this: Is there a way to have your compressor overhauled using a new foil label and have the date code reprinted on it? I have not been able to locate any of the traditional sources that can do this. The reproduction labels have the model, etc on them but the date code section is blank.
Hope someone has an idea and thanks in advance,

Short answer is - no.. :-(

The new foil tags are missing the date code information, all the other items are printed already.

Very carefully remove the foil from your original compressor and take some high-res pictures. You can find a font in the computer which will match in size and look.

Take the foil and lay in on the upper left corner of the paper. Draw an outline on the foil.
Put the paper in single feed tray. Put it in so that print will be on the same side as the outline. Open your word processor and type in the date info in the area that you think it should print in.
Print it and see how close you are in the outline to the actual location on the foil.

Once you are happy with the alignment and font size/look, secure the foil to the paper (upper left corner) with a low adhesive Scotch Tape.

Run it through and you will have the info on the foil about as close as you can get it.

I saw one done this way at a regional meet - looked pretty darn nice!

I'm pretty sure that the info was originally typed into the foil, so duplicating that in font and size with a mechanical typewriter would be fairly hard to do.

PS -- could you post the picture on the forum? It would be really helpful to see the original size and font.

Bill's suggestions will work. However, I would probably just use an IBM Selectric typewriter and type it in. The hardest part is finding an old working typewriter. Often smaller banks and credit unions (and possibly law offices) have them for cashier checks and other special needs. (Our local credit union has 2 or 3 they use daily).

Dick Whittington posted a year or so ago about the type of font and the size. I will try to find the info and post it.....unless Dick see this post and replies with the info.

I found a post in the archives that Joe Randolph stated the font was Courier and the size is about 15 point. This post was dated June 10th, 2008

I too would love to see a photo of the real thing if possible.

Here's a not so good picture of my original label. The Date Code is 121781 but I had a hard time with the focus. This R12 compressor still works fine!
