1960 Fan hits on drag link

Well just as the title says my clutch fan ticks away on the drag link when I turn the steering wheel all the way to one side. I think the fan is a period correct part but not 100% sure if it's correct for this car(please see my other post https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...72990&uid=6696 )

I really can't see how to fix this other than a smaller diameter fan or shim the engine mount, both of which seem kinda hokey...

    Any ideas?

Google tickles #912239 as a clutch fan for '67 Camaro with hydraulic lifters and A/C.

Fan diameter should be 17", so check that first. There are many diameters that look close, like 15-1/2" and 18".

If it's like a 62 I would check for clearance around the outer tip of the fan blades and the shroud. Found just a slight bend in my shroud and with the help of a short piece of 2x4 and rubber hammer the problem is solved.

Sorry I don't have any pics yet but I took the fan of to get pics of it by itself and then got into changing the front wheel cylinders for it's safety inspection tomorrow...

Anyways I did manage to measure the fan and it's 18". I double checked by measuring from the center of the hub to the tip and I get 9" so It looks like it's a tad too big.

For an "easy" temp fix until I get the right one I was going to make a 1/4" shim to put under the drivers side engine mount. Ya I know it's a bubba way of doing things but I really would like to at least drive this thing a bit before winter and this is probably the quickest way to do that.

On the other hand why is 18" too big? Didn't someone mention that some 290hp cars had 18" fans?

I wouldn't be in to much of a hurry !! A fan should be pretty easy to get hold of before you go and fudge some spacers under the mounts. If you have a shroud it will most likely hit the top of it. Even try the majors for a fan you should have one in a few days. Stewy

The 18" fan was used on early C2's with air conditioning, probably others. I believe all 55-62 Corvettes used a 17" fan.
