Jerry Gollnick: Did "Black Death" make to a race?

    Hi Jerry,
Thought you had mentioned that Black Death would race late this month...did you get there? And how did it go?

YES! "Black Death" had a great weekend at the Coronado speed festival races. Motor ran perfectly, no problems. I ran 461 heads that I took off a 365 HP motor 40 years ago. They have been heavily breathed on but they worked great. I think we may have figured out what it takes to run a wet sump race motor. If anyone on the board would like a list of modifications to get it done just let me know. You can see the results by going to HMSAUSA.com and click on the Coronado event. I ran in group 7 Sunday was the final race. Jerry

That's great Jerry......looks like "Black Death" placed pretty decently too.
Glad to hear you're back on the track.
          Thanks for the update.

When I refered to Jerry's engine failure as "the black death" in a previous thread, I never expected it to become the name of the car.

Good to hear the problem is corrected and all is well now.

                Hi Mike,
I've seen this car (with effort, refrained from drooling on it)....a black paint job that looks about 4" deep. The kind of car that looks like it would be death on the race track if you knew it was behind you.
So, an apt name whether racing or oily engine parts in a gunny bag.
                You named it well.

I haven't seen the car close up but I've seen a LOT of excellent pictures of it. I'm impressed! (I remember it from a few decades ago though, before restoration)
                  Jerry did a beautiful restoration.

I guess I'm kinda partial to black race cars with red stripes.

The restoration is beautiful....Jerry was kind enough to tell me in detail many of the things he had done with it.....this was the day after it had gone basket case at the track in Portland, Or. It sat there looking so perfect....hard to believe the insides were pretty well toast.
You must remember it when Dale Mooney had it?

If that's your car in the avatar, I can see why you're partial to black.
