    Differential cross member

    Are their other methods, to remove the rubber cushions from the cross member other than using a press. I took the original cross member to a shop and they mutilated it.

    Did they bend back the tabs before trying to press the cushions out? In any event, using a press to remove them is the only practical way. It may be possible to drive them out with a hammer, but I've never tried that and, I expect, it would be liable to cause more damage than pressing them out. If the tabs are bent back, the crossmember properly supported below the cushions, and the proper press tool used, I don't see why any damage should come to the crossmember.

      I tried to drive mine out with a large hammer and gave up.
      They tend to get rust welded in place.

      Had to bring it to a Corvette specialist that had a press. He removed the old and installed the new without any damage to the crossmember.

        Bob;

        You need a press, to get the old ones out and candidly to get the new ones in... Where do you live? I'm in central NJ and have a press if that is of any help to you.

          I used lots of heat and burned out everything that wasn't steel. Worked good, if a little smelly.
