    Dead wiper confirm?

I wanted to take my car to the LI Metro meet Sunday, it was raining and, my wipers would not work.

I have power to the door/tray limit switch and it opens and closes as it should, also the same for the Knob switch under the dash at the steering column.

The triple wire terminal (1,2,3) plug in is of interest in solving this. The center, 2, is a yellow wire, 12v pos with ign on. Number one terminal is a Lt green wire to the dash wiper switch to provide GROUND. Third wire is the park guy to a relay.

I have power to the #1 terminal if the wiper tray limit switch is closed, and only then. I can see no way to have power there unless I have an internal short. As you know, the motor is not cheap, like me , and I just want to be sure. Perhaps someone else has had this with a different solution? Next step is taking it out and bench testing I guess.

    Thanks, Ken

      Ed,

I have power to the red/white stripe wire to the motor which is supplied by the limit switch when the wiper tray is opened fully.

I have power to the yellow source (center on the triple terminal) to the solenoid that completes the circuit to the motor. The ground circuit, supplied by the dash switch is the one that comes alive with 12 volts when the tray opens to give the motor power. It seems I have a short back to what should be a ground. Looks like I am going to lose my original motor to the rebuilder.

      Thanks, Ken

Ken, The Red Wire Im Speaking Of Exits The The Side Of The Wiper Housing On The Drivers Side. That Wire Comes From The Switch Under Dash And Hooks To The Motor. At Least My 72 Coupe Has It Does Your Car Have The Same Hook-up ?

Ed its pretty easy to bench test on the car. Get the wiper door in the up position, confirm 12 volts on red/white, CONFIRM MOTOR CASE GROUND ,remove the 3 wire plug on the motor, put a wire with 12 volts on the center spade where the yellow wire was attached , then ground the spade that the lt blue wire was attached to, motor should run on high, leave the ground on the lt blue spade and ground the spade the lt green was attached to and the motor should run on low. If this works the motor is OK and you need to work on the wiring or dash switch grounding.
