    C1 58 Trunk Irons

For those of you who have installed aftermarket trunk irons, what is the best metal rod to create the studs and then prepare the irons for their installation so that they might be secured by the stock locknuts. Thanks.

Not sure about the aftermarket trunk spears but I use solid aluminum rod to repair broken mounting studs on originals. Carefully drill and tap holes where the old studs were and use a die to thread one end of a short piece of aluminum rod. Grind the other end round like the originals. Screw the rod into the threaded hole in the spear. After plating and installation you won't know them from originals. Use the correct speed nuts for installation.
