    71 valve cover grommets

My 71 base 350 (stamped steel) valve covers came with the angled top, rounded lower section and flat upper section, grommet as called for on the left for PCV. I have noticed that both C. Central and Paragon prescribe the left PCV as described above, and a full round, flat top grommet for the right breather tube. I have no reason to believe that it didn't originally come with the identical PCV grommets on both sides. Has anyone else had this situation and if so, what is the correct configuration? Baffled as usual, Mike

    Mike,
Both sides are the same. I'm a bit confused by your description but I would say they are angled so the PCV and breather are horizontal when installed. The angled grommet somewhat levels the angle of the valve cover if that helps.

      Mike,
I meant to say vertical rather than horizontal.

Yes, GM #3989350, the grommets you have pictured, were used for both sides. Was every, single 1971 with base 350 done this way? I don't know. There could have been exceptions.

By the way, what paint did you use on your engine? Was it the Bill Hirsch-supplied Chevy Orange?

            Thank you Guys,
Apparently I will have to verify an application with you folks when the aftermarket catalogs dont smell right. Grateful as always, Mike

No, we used VHT Chevy Orange.
