Carpets & Heel Pad - Reproduction

One of the last major items I need to get for me interior of my 68 are the carpets. When I purchased the car 3 years ago the carpets were out of the car so I can nothing to look or compare to. I have heard that Romeo Engineer has the best reproduction carpet and heel pad. Has anyone purchased carpets from them and had thier car judge at a national level? If so, could you let me know if you were pleased in the judging of them. If someone could share pics or another manufacture that they feel may be better in the detailing and loop please do. Thank you Jeff

Just installed carpet in my 70 on Friday. Used Al Knoch and they fit perfectly. You'll have to call them re your heel pad. Re Romeo, read previous posts and decide for yourself.

Joe. Just read them. Interesting. Thanks for the info. I was looking up some of the archieve and missed this one. Al Knocks just did not interior pillars and cross member and they came out excellent. Thanks Jeff

Re: Carpets & Heel Pad - Reproduction

        Hi Jeff,
I got my 71's carpet from Romeo. I found them to be a 'trip' to deal with.
I was please with the carpet but found the IMCo logo on the heel pad that the Judging Guide mentions, and Romeo duplicates, to be much larger and prominent than the one on my original. I don't know if this is true for other years with the logo... perhaps it varied in size.
Because the heel pad on my original carpet was in much better shape than the carpet itself I ended up putting the old pad on the new carpet.
Another little battle with reproduction parts.
        Regards,
        Alan

Was your car judged with the Al knock Carpets? If so, what level was is at (Chapter/Regional/National) and how did you do.

Alan - Thank you as well for the help. Great info

Jeff, I Did A Carpet Install On My Buddys 68 Conv. He Used Al Knock Carpets, There Where Quite A Few Differences, I Removed The Factory Orig. Carpets, The Al Knoch Heel Pads Were Not Even Close( Marking And Texture), The Color He Had Was Bright Blue, Which Was Not Even Close To Orig. And Lastly The Rear Carpet That Rests Against The Back Of The Car Was Not Even The Same Cut, We Did How Ever Send This Piece Back To Al Konck And With The Orig.and He Remade This Piece.

              Jeff

The car will be judged soon, so I'll see how they'll do. My 67 is a Bloomington Gold and we installed Knoch carpets prior to that event. I guess it comes down to a particular meet, with a particular judge, on any given day.

Joe thanks for getting back to me. I would interested on how
the carpets do. Currrently my 68 is on schedule to be judge
in early spring of 2010. The car is going to be painted by christmas
then I am going to mount the body to the frame. So I have
some time before I need to ordered. I just do not want to wait to
long. Look foreward in hearing from you. Thanks

                    Hi Jeff
I got my 68 blue carpets from Romeo 6 months ago. I waited 3 years in thinking I'd better order now and get it in 6 to 9 months.
I placed my order via telephone talked to the owner and he took my visa and address. He told me he was out of stock and had to pick up some material. So I figured 6 to 9 months.
I was surprised as it arrived in 4 weeks. Put me off my schedule in installing the carpet so now it sits in a box in the laundry room. The wife keeps on walking around it and I think she wants it put in the car.
The IMCO logo is as good as it gets. Maybe raised a little higher so maybe I will do some light sanding to lower the logo or when I restore the car I can put my heel right on the logo and hold on tight when I rip through the gears!!!

So I haven't had a problem with Romeo's product or service.
Hope it works for you and other members.
                    Thanks, grant

As menitoned, the logo is not like the original. Usually, you will lose the same point for its size as for its absence.

Knoch's ad in the newest Driveline states that the correct ribbing (which was one of their problems for 1968-69) has been corrected. I have not seen it and don't know about the dimmer pad. I judged a 1968 this past weekend which had a dimmer pad, but the owner had purchased the carpet several months ago from Knoch.

Let us know what you find.

I purchased my 1970 carpeting from Al Knoch the heel pad was in correct they do not have the IMPCO logo and thet installed a heel pad by the dimmer switch which I have to remove. I had to send the drivers side back to Al Knoch for replacement. I knok off my whole schedule.

I purchased my carpet from Romeo about 3 years ago. As Grant mentioned earlier, I also ordered by phone. He took my visa #'s and it came in about 6 weeks as best I remeber it. I used Romeo because of the logo and their ad in the Driveline. I have had it judged at a Chapter meet with no problem. I look forward to having it judged at a regional in 2010.
