        I agree with Keith, the end binding will tell the story! I would look through restorer articles as I think that this subject is covered somewhere.

          I was always told that original carpet has two seam stitches on the end binding where as most if not all reproduction only has one

            Original M-Y carpet loops were formed in a distinctive "Corn Row" pattern.

                I have not developed the eye yet for the corn row pattern yet so here is an original kick panel with repo carpet below. Hope it helps a little.
