1966 Big Block Intake , PN 3885069

Can someone please clarify (for a 1966 big block 3885069 intake), is the casting date representing the month, a letter character or a number for the month it was cast?....

Judging manual states it should be a letter for the month, but I have seen a number for the month as well.

I have 50+ aluminum intakes including 6 "069" intakes.NONE have letter character all have number characters for month,day or year

Can't speak to the '66 aluminum manifold or TIM&JG, but I have the '069's older brother the '65 # 3866963, and it is all numerals, on the bottom, so it can't be seen during judging.

However, cast iron manifolds have it on the top (ie. C_14_6).

I believe the JG reference is to the CI manifolds as the number cannot be seen and thus is not judged on the AL manifolds.

It's exactly as Bill describes. Also, the aluminum manifolds were cast by Winters Foundry in Canton, OH. Winters did not generally use the same casting date nomenclature format that GM foundries did. Since GM usually did not specify the location or format of the casting date, Winters was free to use whatever format they wished. And, they did.
