    68-72 Interior Options

I saw a '70 on ebay. The interior code is 400, indicating black vinyl, yet the car has leather seats (recovered I'm sure) and deluxe door panels with wood grain inserts.

Could you get the deluxe interior with vinyl seats? What features, other than wood and carpet on the door panels and thicker carpet, came with the deluxe interior option?

In those days, the choice was standard or 'custom' interior trim. With a custom trim package, you got the leather seats, wood grained accents + carpet trimed door panels, wood grain accent on the center console and plush pile vs. 80/20 nylon loop carpeting...

...and for 1968-69, there was no deluxe interior option. You could order leather seats, but that was it. With the leather seat option, the rest of the interior remained the same as if the car had standard interior. Of course, color options were available.

For my 1969, I would not have ordered custom interior even if it had been available and even if I weren't trying to cut the cost of the car. When deluxe interior first appeared in 1970, I considered the wood trim to be very "un-Corvette-like". I also considered the "cut pile" carpeting, both on the floor and the door panels, to be absolutely HIDEOUS. In my mind, not fit for use in a Corvette, at all. My opinion of this has not changed one iota over the years.

        Hi Joe,
I agree with your feelings about the 'delux interior'.
When I first saw one I thought it looked like the wood and carpet had come from an Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme!
        Regards,
