It appears that those of you that still have their GM #3992095 fan blade have concluded that the hub is steel and has aluminum blades.

As I said in my post that started this discussion, I found one of these blades at Carlisle that was in very poor shape at a cost of $300. I went to the NCRS booth to see if anyone was aware of someone that could repair/restore these fans. I didn't buy it because they were unable to say that there was such a service availible.

Does anyone here know of someone that does this type of work? I would seek out my wrecked blade or be prepared to buy one that is damaged if I knew it could be repaired/restored. Thanks!

I don't know of anyone that repairs/restores these fan blade assemblies. If there's anyone that does it, you'd probably find them in Hemmings. This is the kind of specialty that would be most used by restorers of real old cars with fan blade assemblies that are absolutely unobtainable.

It would be great if someone would undertake doing that. Take the center steel part, fabricate the aluminum tipped blades, and rivet them back on like originals. Those 1970-1973 LS-5 with C60 fan blade assemblies are becoming absolutely unobtainable. I'd love to have an extra in case something happens to mine. Or find someone who can restore them.

Joe, I was fairly sure that I would get the response about resoration/repair of these fans that you gave me. I am glad I didn't purchase the blade as I saw it in carlisle. Without proper restoration/repair I feared, and still do, that a damaged aluminum bladed fan might find it's way through my origional big block hood!! Sadly, I'll keep, and drive with, my repro blade.

I hope We didn't just drive the price of the few blades that might be out there out of sight!!!

          Have fun!!
