Interesting reading, Rob, especially the translation.

The last time I ran into the Dutch language was when I was working for a client in Eupen, Belgium. He was taking me through his facility and told me that they had strict language rules in the plant. The office people spoke only French. The production people were on a different floor and spoke only German. When he took me into the lab so we could review his formulations he pulled them up on the computer and it was all in Dutch! All of his engineers were Dutch. The Benelux area is so confused about language.

Both he and the other plant owner were fluent in about 7 different languages. I don't see how you guys do it.

So true! When I worked at Opel (Ruesselsheim, Germany) in the late 70's, all the skilled trades were German, but very few of the production workers on the line were; most were from Greece, Eastern Europe, and North Africa. Line production supervision had to be able to communicate with their people in many different (and sometimes obscure) languages.
