    70 Radiator Hoses

I've seen radiator hoses with a just a GM part number and others with the part number and a stripe running down their lenght. Are they both correct or is one more correct than the other? Tx.

I think that by the early 70's the stripe had disappeared from most of the hoses, but some 1970 and later hoses did have them. Did your car have such hoses with stripes? The only way to know, for sure, would be to have the original hoses. I believe (but I'm not certain) that either the striped or non-striped hoses would be acceptable for judging purposes. However, the hoses must have the GM logo and original part number printed in white. That's the main thing.

      Hi Joseph,
My 71, small block, aluminium radiator car, has it's original radiator hoses.
It's a mid-January built car and the upper hose has the blue stripe as Joe surmises might be possible.
The stripe is about 1/4" wide and has left a distinct imprint in the hose, as have a group of letters and numbers that run with-in the width of the stripe, and along about 2" of it's length. The very precise imprint of the characters has the blue color of the stripe in them as well.
Here's the info, and it's relative spacing.

I hope this info is of some use to you.
      Regards,
      Alan

Tx for the response. Unfortunately I don't have the original hoses. I may also call the 70 lead judge Stan F to get his thoughts. Tx again.

          Joseph,

Really, your "only" option is the current reproduction hoses which I suspect come in one form only. I have installed these on cars and received zero deductions in Chapter, Regional and National meets. FYI, I also removed the "dot matrix" printing with the modern date codes, and if I judge mechanical I do deduct for the modern printing on them.

As you can see below, my 72 lower radiator hose has the numbers + a line.

I just installed a repro on another 72, and it has the numbers but no line.

Do you believe it makes a difference from a judging perspective if the stripe is there or not? I purchased non striped from Paragon, but see that Dr Rebuild has them with the stripe. Tx

No, I do not think it makes a significant difference.
You might want to e-mail Doc Rebuild to see if they have ones with the stripe for your car or if the stripe exists only in the picture in the catalog.
