1957 E Brake light switch

I have attached 2 pictures of an emergency brake light switch which came with my car parts.
Is it the correct configuration?
When I twist and release the handle it hits the switch bracket.
It seems that the offset in the bracket should be on the opposite side.
Of have I just been laying under the dash of my car to long?
All advice will be appreciated.

Looks like my '55 switch, should be the same.

That's it!
That little "bent over" tab on the end of the long flat arm is contacted, and pulled back, by the head of a pin in the E-brake shaft when the E-brake handle is FULLY released. This breaks the electrical circuit to the flasher unit.
Exact same switch/flasher that is on my 56.

Bruce,
I had the same problem on my 56. I was told that the car switch holder was opposite of the corvette switch holder. I found another one that had the offset on the opposite side and it worked like it should.

Steve,
Your response backs up my thoughts on the design of the switch holder.
I think I can adjust it to work but I'll look for the correct part.
