    roof strap anchor plate finish

This is the plates that are in the wheel wells. They are appox 3 x1/2 inch.
The straps in the trunk are anchored to the chrome loops. The chrome loops are screwed into these plates.

Anyone know the finish of these plates.

BTW, the screws are not phillips. They are slots. This has got to be the only slot head screws in the entire vehicle.

    Hi Stephen,
On my 71 it was difficult to determine what the original finish of the plate was. It was very dark, perhaps manganese phosphate.
It may be a moot point for us since because of its position I believe you could justify including it in the wheel well black-out on the face and sides of the plate that remain visible once the body is back on.
    Regards,
    Alan

PS: In addition to the slotted screws I think it's interesting that Chevrolet went to the trouble of installing a little brass? spacer on each screw under the footman loops to prevent the loops from sinking down into the carpet too far to be used.

On 73's they are covered with the black tar wheel well undercoat. I would paint them black and cover them with undercoat after instalation.

        Thanks,
Yes there is tar undercoating at that location so the finish doesn't matter.
