Re: Needed 1979 Exhaust System Parts
As you likely already know, in NOS form, these are going to be EXTREMELY difficult-to-find parts. The "crossover" pipe, GM #371789, was discontinued without supercession in November, 1992. The catalytic converter, GM #6498393, was discontinued without supercession in January, 1995.
If you want to look for NOS pieces, here are a few sources I might suggest:
1) Tracy Performance
2) Paragon Vintage
3) J. T. Piper's Automotive Specialties
Keep in mind, if you find them in NOS form, you will likely have to pay a "king's ransom" for them. But, if you didn't have to pay a "king's ransom", the chances are the pieces would have already been sold.
Other options:
Usually, the front "Y" pipe will be in pretty good condition. In fact, I don't know why you need one with only 4200 miles on the car. In any event, you should be able to find real good used examples of this piece;
If you have an original converter that's become dysfunctional, you can have it rebuilt by the below-referenced source. If you don't have one, they can sell you a rebuilt original, outright.

Re: Needed 1979 Exhaust System Parts
Thank you for the informative post. Here's the deal, I ordered the car brand new in Aug of 1978 and it was delivered in Oct of 1978. Sometime in 1979 I got the bright idea to remove the converter and add a true dual exhaust. The dual exhaust along with addition of an MSD 6A system really woke the car up but now I would like to return the car to stock and show it as a survivor car. It is all original except for the modifications to the exhaust. I will try the sources you have suggested. Thank you,Bill Strobel
