    starter 1107233

These starters are so scarce....i can't even find a picture of one....do they bolt to the bell housing like 1107889 or to the block like 1107242....sorry but i've looked everywhere for an answer....i have an original bell hsg that has 3 mtg holes but the orginal 340 hp block currently at rebuild also has mtg holes ( i think )....i have a 1107242 and a 1107888 that i could use.

As originally configured, the GM #1107233 used a starter nose that attached with 3 bolts to the bellhousing.

As far as what a 1107233 looks like, it looks just about the same as any other 1957-61 and 1962 with manual transmission starter. The only visible difference is the number stamped on the starter frame. Starter frames often get "reconfigured" when they go through a commercial rebuilding operation. So, there may be frames out there with the 1107233 number stamped on them but otherwise reconfigured for just about any starter application. By the same token, there may be starters out there with some other completely different number stamped on them that were originally configured completely differently than an 1107233 but are now configured, except for number, exactly like an original 1107233.

This "numbers thing" can get real nuts.

By the way, 1962 was a "changeover" year for starters. For 1962, all manual trans applications used the 3 bolt, bellhousing-mounted starter. All Powerglide apps used the block mounted starter. Except for some 409 applications in passenger cars, 1963 saw block-mounted starters pretty much across the board.

Joe...Thank you so much for the answer....Chasing parts for a rebuild and a body off is truely like " chasing your tail "....In Harley circles there is a saying " If you have to ask....You wouldn't understand ". I'm thinking this rings true for NCRS folks....Thanks again for the answer.
