    Worn trans governor shaft grooves

I'm in the process of having the trans rebuilt in my 1954(E), S/N E54S001926. The fellow doing the rebuild says the governor shaft ring grooves are worn/stepped and the governor has to be replaced. He has been unable to locate an acceptable replacement. Can the grooves be restored by some means? Is there a replacement part that will function properly? Is there a source for a new/rebuilt governor?
