    Original 67 Door Panel Restoration

I'm looking for someone who can restore a couple of of original 67 door panels. I DO NOT want to recover them. I need an excellent interior vinyl person who can fix a couple of bubbles and repair a few tears along the back edge of the arm rests. The panels are really in pretty good shape. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Let your fingers do the walking through the Yellow Pages...

Where I've seen good results from repair of vinyl is from those who specialize in that doing restaurant seating, Etc. If they're good, and the rips/tears aren't too bad to start with, virtually invisible repairs can be achieved.

BUT, heads up, if the original vinyl has dried out to the point that it has cracked/ripped, the remaining fabric may not be that far behind the damaged area(s) in terms of ultimate wear...

      Kirk,
I have used a company called "Color Glo" with good success for the repairs you mention. If you don't find them in the big yellow book call the service department of some of the auto dealers. Bill

        Kirk,

Contact the local used car dealerships in your area, and ask whom the use. There is usually the "one" guy in most areas.

          Hi Kirk,

I'm thinking about trying to restore my original door panels too, or at least exploring the possibilities. Did you try any of the ideas mentioned above, and if so, how did they turn out?

Re: Original 67 Door Panel Restoration

I had an original set of 67 door panels repaired by a local shop. They had a "vinyl guy" that came in once a week for special jobs. He did a GREAT JOB.

At the rear edge, at the top, the vinyl was completely warn away. Also, on the driver's side, there was a 2" long tear from the bottom of the door handle latch opening going straight down. They couldn't do anything about the bubble without completely taking the vinyl off.

            Can you see the repair?

These panels only took a 1 point deduct in Regional judging this May in Iowa.

A big thanks to Daryl and his crew at Precision Upholstery.

It looks like they did a really nice job on your door panels, that's very encouraging. Definitely worth looking into further.

              Thanks!

                Chris, EXCELLENT JOB!!

Kirk, I agree with some of the other guys. Check with your local dealerships that have been in business for awhile and use the same guy. We have a guy here in Decatur, Dr Vinyl. I took my 67 to my brother-in-laws shop and met the guy there to repair my door panels. Waited while he did the work and I was SUPER happy with the results. Like Chris' it's tough to see where he repaired it.

Tom's idea is right on target. When I was in high school I worked as a lot boy at my brother in laws Ford dealership and there was "one guy" who would come around once a week and fix the interiors on the new and used cars on the lot (there were over 200 used cars) and this guy was good, so good he had all the dealerships and used car lots in the lower end of the county.

Thanks guys. I was looking for a picture of the door panels PRIOR to the fix, but I didn't have one. If you get RIGHT up close to it you can see the repair, but you have to know where to look, and be in direct sunlight.

                      I'm happy.

I found no one locally. I tried all of your suggestions and no one would touch the panels with a ten foot pole. Very frustrating. None of my crappy ideas worked either. Right now the panels are just sitting in their box.

                            Kirk,
I didn't check to see where you lived, but somebody out there is fixing interiors for the dealerships. Call a couple of those some small independent used car lots and maybe you will get a referral to somebody who isn't afraid to work on one of "those Corvette Guy's" car.
