    1970-1972 Seats

Can seats and rails from 1971 up be a direct bolt-in for a 1970 Corvette without modifications?

    Thanks,

1968-71 seat rails are all the same. So, 1971 seat rails could be bolted in to any 68-70. 1972 and later seat rails are different. So, some modification would be required. I don't know exactly what it would be, though.

As far as I know, 1971-74 seat assemblies will bolt into a 1970 without modification.

I compared 3 seat track sets 70,71,72 they look the same, I noticed one set that the pivot rivet flat head did not have a stamp (E-2), also, the tracks have numbers examples, 203 1, 223 1, 236 1, 238 1, 248 1. These may or may not be dates? I think 238 1 was removed from a 72. Steve

There is a difference in the 72-74 seat tracks compared to the 68-71. However, I just don't recall what it is.

          Hi Steven,
Your thoughts are right-on about the date stamp. There was a little discussion about refinishing the tracks a week or two ago, and the dates were mentioned. Here's a picture of a track from my 71 mid-January built car. The date 'fits' nicely, the 301st day of 1970.
I retrieved the picture from a 2008 post.
          Regards,
          Alan

The difference is in the rear mounting brackets on each track. The installation looks to have been reversed in 1972. I believe that the bracket itself may also be different but I'm not at my shop to tell for certain.

Thanks to Alan for posting the pic., the 72' I have is an early production #3187, with a 71' date so the production change to the seat track happened sometime later in 72'. Steve
